Communitopia provides transformative climate change education that develops today’s climate leaders and advances equitable solutions

We recognize that climate change is a generational justice and social justice issue, and acknowledge that as our world warms, we are not all impacted the same. Our task is to center and uplift the voices, ideas and assets of those most impacted. We ignite and sustain the ability of youth, educators, k-12 district leaders and communities to act on the systems perpetuating the climate crisis. We believe there is no time like the present to immerse our youth in opportunities to be the change.

Our regional youth groups exist to ignite students’ passion for climate action

Each of the roughly 60 students who participate in our out-of-school-time climate action youth groups practices using their assets to improve the climate. Past projects enhance green infrastructure, raise awareness on environmental injustice, and further the regional youth climate movement.

Our school-based workshops increase scientific literacy and foster action

Since 2018 we’ve reached more than 750 youth with our in-school workshops. During the workshop, students identify actions they can take to collectively make their school and neighborhood more climate-friendly. From planting trees to planting gardens, these student-led efforts require resources.

Ensure all educators in our region have the confidence and tools to effectively teach about climate change

We provide a $500 stipend to each educator who participates in our Climate Change Teacher Fellowship. This Fellowship is proven to increase teachers’ knowledge, confidence, and motivation to incorporate climate change into their curriculum, no matter what subject they teach!

Our Climate Solution Kits are hands-on boxes that engage the community in scalable climate solutions

We provide 400 FREE kits to families and classrooms throughout Southwestern PA each year. It costs us roughly $30 to procure, pack and ship each kit. Help us continue to provide this beloved resource empowering students to BUILD, LEARN, and ACT on climate change.
